About Me
Intro
This is the culmination of my work for the Masters in Educational Technology & Media Leadership. I hope it provides insight into me as a student and a prospective employee in the field of Educational Technology.
After working in higher education over 5 years, I have built a relationship with many of the faculty, staff, and students. I have great interpersonal skills and able to work effectively in various levels within the university. I am technically savvy, with experience in many of the software applications that are needed and always continuing my education.
My name is Sivyu Chia. I am a second generation Chinese-American. My parents emigrated from Southeast Asia when they were in their teens and moved to Oregon. I was born in Salem and lived there until I was eight years old, when my family moved to Long Beach, California. I am the oldest of six children (five girls and one boy).
I attended various schools in the Long Beach Unified School District. In 1999, I graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School. Afterward, I attended UC San Diego, where I majored in Communication and minored in Literatures in English and Literatures of the World.
After my graduation in 2004, I moved back to Long Beach and worked as an office manager for a contracting company. Although I enjoyed the fast paced environment, it was not my passion. In 2011, I began working in the IT department at the College of Business, CSULB. It was here that I found a way to incorporate my love of learning and technology into a career. I begin the Masters of Education in Educational Technology and Media Leadership in Spring 2014.
My hobbies include reading, photography, and knitting.
